Stage of Genocide (English)

            Classification is one stage of genocide that relates well to the book Safe Area Gorazde. Classification is the act of responding to a person based on what group they belong to, usually as if they are less human than other groups. An example of classification is when Serbian police where stopping a bus full of Muslims at a checkpoint every five minutes while taking families away without explanation. Another example is when Edin, who usually is very friendly, refuses to speak with his old neighbors because they were Serbs. He said himself “They were asking ‘How your family? What is the condition of our houses, who is living in them now?’ I had no interest to speak with them.”
